Riches to rags for Judy after Snow Queen.
Former dancer and champion athlete Judy Slater has become a fully-fledged actress and singer. She takes the title role in a stage version of the Hans Anderson story The Snow Queen which Maidenhead's Norden Farm Arts Centre is performing until January 6th. Though born in the West Indies, Judy has a Scottish father which is why she ended up studying music and drama over the border. Her first training was in classical ballet but she found she had a talent for running... Judy's sprinting achievements included becoming Scottish 100 metres champion - but then a track injury closed that avenue. Fortunately she had already developed an interest in acting so performing became her goal... Judy thinks that her most strenuous role to date was a futuristic version of Jungle Book in which she played Mowgli and in which the jungle became the city. She is a versatile singer and has ranged from the opera stage to vocalising with a Latin-American band... and has a special interest in developing new work. From The Snow Queen she goes into a touring production of Bizet's Carmen again in the title role.
